A while ago I heard about the Mars One project that intends to create a permanent human settlement on Mars. I find the whole idea fascinating! I believe that colonization of other planets will probably be essential for the survival of the human race, but always thought that was something for the very distant future. I never expected that the intention is to send manned missions to Mars already around 2024-2026.This is a fun book that explains a lot of different things surrounding the colonization of Mars. It talks about the harsh conditions on the planet, the difficulties of the journey to it, and how we could possibly manage to make Mars a planet that humans can live on. This is a nice little book if you want to get some more background information on the whole idea of creating human settlements on other planets.

Hey, that was a fun and interesting little book! I keep saying to my environmentalist friends to not worry since we'll soon be colonizing other planets. Craig Devine puts things into perspective and shows that massive amounts of energy and, in some cases, time are required before we can actually walk around on Mars. The book also discusses other bodies in our solar system, such as Ceres and Europa. A great book for people who know little about astronomy and would like to get their questions about space travel and colonization answered.
